Breaking the bubble

I would like more community outreach programs, and maybe more involvement with other schools and their clubs. I’ve never had a reason to go to another school, and creating ties with other schools would be nice

A Cluster of Cliques

The small community nature of Goucher makes it easier for groups of cliques to form. These cliques make me feel trapped and create difficulties in branching out into different friends groups. Everyone knows everything and your reputation tends to follow you around. We become trapped in this constant social circle with no escape.

Going out into the Surrounding Community

The Goucher bubble is what happens when you feel too comfortable to leave campus and explore. I personally do not feel trapped in the bubble but when I do I just plan an outing with people and end up somewhere in Baltimore.

Transportation issues

What makes it the most difficult to get out of the bubble is lack of transportation. Yes, we are surrounded by many different things such as the Towson Town Center Mall, Towson itself, and also the Target shopping center etc., but getting places is the hard part. If you don't have a car or friends with cars, you have to plan walking to and from places (sometimes taking over 40 minutes!) We're college students, our free time is limited so having to take extra time to get places is a hassle.

Familiarity with the area

As a freshman, I feel trapped within the bubble. I am not familiar with the area and don't get out much because I don't know where places are. The places I do know and go out to become boring after awhile because it feels like the same thing all the time. I feel as time goes on and my years here accumulate I will get out more. Next year, my friend will have her car on campus, which will make it easier to go places and explore. I think that people need to take it upon themselves to "break free" from the bubble. Goucher isn't stopping you or babysitting you, you have all these opportunities to get out, so do it!

Your Reputation

The Goucher Bubble is extremely small. Everyone knows everyones drama and secrets even though you don't know the person necessarily. The negatives are that you cannot escape the reputation that you create for yourself. There is lots of gossiping and rumors. The positives are that you are able to make really close friends, good network of diverse people. I have more opportunities to be myself and open and find out who I am. But you also do become comfortable with your routine so you have to learn how to change things up.

The World is Filled with Prejudices

I would define the Goucher Bubble as the students not getting off campus and exploring the outside world which is filled with prejudices that Goucher does not have. I haven't been pushed out of my comfort zone at all. I have a routine and I stick to that

False Sense of Reality

The positives are that people on campus become very close! and maintain friendships and relationships for long times (even life times). Also, students and faculty have a very personal relationship that I think is connected to the Goucher Bubble. The negatives are that Goucher is not how life truly is, and if people are not leaving campus then they are giving themselves a false sense of reality.

Suffocating Invisible Thing

The Goucher Bubble is this suffocating invisible thing on our campus. The Bubble affects the entirety  of our campus. I've experienced similar effects but none quite as strong as Goucher.

Routine-Based

I find that small communities lend themselves a lot better to routine than do bigger communities. My time at Goucher has been very routine-based. I can safely say that my comfort zone has not been challenged much since I came to Goucher, which is both a good and a bad thing.
